Spring, 2026

I looked out the window, and just like that, it was spring!

I’ve lived a wintertime full of sunny days
so what was different about this one
seen only from my chair at the kitchen table?

I think it was the warmth in the sunshine
rather than just the illumination

The gently swaying branches on the trees
rather than the aggression of the winter winds

The new life emerging
green pushing up where just recently there was only brown

Maybe, though
it was simply the need I have
to know that the cold and bitter time
will come to an end
as so many of us
have been hoping

I don’t know

but I’ll take it.
