Untouched

I stepped outside this morning and was overwhelmed
by the beauty of the new day

Despite the turmoil of my human heart and mind
the world rolls on and on

The sun is rising higher above the horizon
and the shadows are growing shorter

The trees are showing buds
in anticipation of leafing in the next few months

The air is crisp and clear
absent the wind and clouds of yesterday

The birds go about their business of singing and surviving
their minds untouched

by those things I allow to touch mine

      1. Thanks for reading and for your comments! I don’t know, but I think I like “smilier” better. I am trying to be just that and break out of a funk, so I appreciate the reason to smile!

  1. Tim, taking time to appreciate the gifts delivered by each new day, in the fresh light of morning, provides a timely reminder of the importance of embracing simple pleasures. Your words depict the contrasting world of nature with our own often frantic existence. Your observations in the poem are both pertinent and revealing. Thank you for this gift.

    1. Thank you for reading, and for your comments, Alan. It’s difficult during these times for me to slow down and appreciate the beauty of the world around me. Nature is, for the most part, unchanged and unmoved by the daily events of our particular species. Like so many others, that constant is a source of peace.
