Predicting the weather, especially in the early days of summer in the south, is always the pursuit of a moving target. Air pressure rises and falls, fronts move, winds shift, and water vapor collects in white masses that turn to gray then turn to black. Temperatures drop ten degrees in a matter of minutes and the trees wave back and forth, welcoming the lashing they are to take. Nature holds on.
warm turns to cool
clouds roll in from the west
we brace for what’s next
Moving haibun Tim, you brought me in the middle of your weather. I like the added excitement of the unknown at the closing too. And your “Temperatures drop ten degrees in a matter of minutes” sounds very much like our windy Chicago weather, thanks!

Wow, Tim, beautiful writing. And from Michelle, I learned a new word haibun, for what you did here. “trees wave back and forth, welcoming the lashing rains to come” is something I miss in the part of the world where I live. I like the way you bookmark the writing with the notion of the unpredictability. From “Predicting the weather…moving target” to “we brace for what’s next”

And those clouds from the west, where I am, make change here, too. We have 80s today & 60s tomorrow, sad to say for this weekend! Nicely done, I like that word ‘brace’, too!

When a storm rolls in it’s so dramatic, like a play unfolding and I love to watch. Great description in your poem!

Wonderful haibun! I love all the verbs and action going on. Also, I appreciate the subtle contrast between “nature holds on” and “we brace for what’s next.” What a great final line.

Yes to bracing for what’s next! In the weather and otherwise! Ruth, thereisnosuchthingasagodforsakentown.blogspot.com

You might have thought that I read your piece before I wrote mine, as we both talked of weather and clouds moving in from the west. Well, I didn’t. But, it just goes to show that we were thinking alike in our late spring observations! Love the haiku! Hope your weather didn’t get too nasty.

Unpredictability noted, Tim. same here. We are surprised by the abrupt entrance of many storms here. Your haibun ending is a very good one.
