A pair of haiku to welcome the day.
The mourning dove sits
introducing a new day
with his plaintive call
Birdsong fills the air
The morning chorus rising
as the new day dawns

A great topic for this week! It feels as though the birds have been louder than ever lately. (There are cicadas coming next month, and I don’t know how much we will be able to hear the birds once those guys get going!)

So lovely. The mourning dove call IS so plaintive – I love to hear it, for it makes me contemplative. One of my favorite things about this time of the year is that dawn birdsong chorus, indeed. Thank you for these celebratory haiku, Tim!

I live a long way away, but both your haiku describe my morning too! Talk about universal! Thanks for these, Tim.

Mourning doves. It’s so interesting – this push-pull of this plaintive call that still manages to instill hope. I’m not sure what magic is behind it, but I’m all for it.

That morning chorus has been rising here as well. It is such a wonderful morning greeting…at least when I get up early enough! 🙂

It is a wonderful time of the year to be outside. I’m usually up early enough, but being outside doesn’t always happen!

The morning bird chorus has greeted me many days as Spring arrives here in Indiana.
The mourning doves serenaded us outside our window when we lived on the tenth floor of Edificio Dos Parques in Miraflores, Lima, Peru.

Mourning doves certainly get around! I had to look it up, and I found that they’re found from Canada down into South America. Wow!

Oh, I love, love, love this time of day…for writing. There’s something magical about the birdsong early in the morning. Love the simplicity of haiku as well.

Linda, I enjoy the morning as well. I’m looking forward to temps that are conducive to being outside as the sun rises–they’re coming soon!

I have listened to a Bach playlist almost every morning of the pandemic. I turn it on before I read email or the news or check any digital feed. At least I did until early April. I remember that there are robins and jays and, yes, a mourning dove to be heard. Who am I to deny them an audience? I am grateful for their song.
